Meet the Artisans of Madurai

Lakshmi's hands know the exact weight of a finished stick — 1.3 grams, give or take the humidity. She has rolled incense in Madurai for thirty years, first for a factory that paid by the thousand, now for Thuya, where she leads a workshop of twenty women and is paid, as she puts it, 'like the work matters.'

Her daughter Kavitha studied chemistry in Chennai and came home to become our lead fragrance developer. The blends on this site — the honeyed depth of Sacred Marigold, the cool green opening of Morning Tulsi — are her formulations, built on her mother's instincts and validated in a lab.

This is what we mean when we say craft is not nostalgia. It is a living lineage that evolves when it is paid fairly and taken seriously. The workshop hums with film songs and gossip; the output rivals any automated line in consistency and beats it, always, in soul.
